Milton Watch
“Milton Watch” is a crime prevention program that involves citizens working with each other and with law enforcement to reduce crime and victimization in the community.

It involves:

  • Citizens protecting themselves and their property by using common sense crime prevention practices.
  • Neighbours getting to know each other, watching out for each other and acting on or reporting suspicious activities.
Citizens working with groups, community leaders, and more importantly, law enforcement agencies to make Milton safe and free from crime.
As an initiative of the Milton Community Policing Committee, Milton Watch is a program committed to making our community a safer place to live and work. It is a group of concerned, responsible, law abiding citizens working together to provide greater peace of mind and freedom from criminal activity. Milton Watch will tie in with the Town of Milton’s Strategic Community Economic Development Plan entitled “Destiny Milton”:
    • A well-planned community with a high quality of life, which:
    • Supports the family as the foundation of the community
    • Nurtures community spirit, participation and a sense of belonging
    • To build and maintain a safe, livable and healthy community
Community spirit and participation will be the impetus for the success of Milton Watch. Milton Watch will involve the entire community, citizens, businesses & law enforcement; “the community looking out for the community”. It is getting to know each other and becoming familiar with your neighbours’ habits and vehicles so that you will know when something is suspicious or out of the ordinary.
Upon recognition of a suspicious activity, Milton Watch participants are asked to report it by phoning the local police station. All callers will be treated anonymously.

Many people don’t want to bother the police because they are afraid that it may not be a real emergency or that they may be embarrassed if their suspicions turn out to be unfounded. The police would much rather be called out to investigate a reported suspicion than to be called after a crime has been committed and the perpetrators have fled.
